CHILDREN’S SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CLUB
The inaugural mission is to coordinate a consortium of schools for less privileged (orphans, disabled, abandoned) children into a club aptly titled ‘Grow’. Thereafter membership will be open to all schools and a selection criteria set with each institution.
The focus of the club of 25 (numbers tbc) children will be to participate bi-monthly in a sustainable development project which aims to educate the kids in some form of skill, craft or focus area.
As the environment is very topical and agriculture remains forefront in the minds of many given the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) statistics which projects world hunger to reach an historic high. Awakening the youth on the potentials in the agricultural sector not only to meet their own needs but the country’s need as a whole given the country’s heavy reliance on the importation of many of its essential foods and the intense food insecurity in Nigeria as a nation. The real dismal picture cleverly masked by the proceeds from crude oil.
The idea is to take them to a partnering agricultural outlet/farm, to educate and possibly incite future interest in the sector. The club would visit the relevant section or farm on each visit as .
Course outline could include – farming techniques, snailery, chicken, pig and fish farming amongst others. Environmental issues/factors related to farming etc. Approach will be very much a hands on, practical one as opposed to theoretical style.
The course is to run for 6 months – bi –monthly ( 2 classes per month).
